Class 4 Science Day

As part of our science curriculum, the staff at St Michael’s held a full day of exciting scientific experiments for pupils to hone their investigating abilities! Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 performed two exciting science experiments over the course of the day and recorded every single step of the process in their workbooks detailing their scientific method. Starting with an experiment investigating the effects of reactions between acids and alkalis in form of mixing bicarbonate of soda with various liquids in order to produce carbon dioxide. Another experiment was performed in the afternoon investigating the reactions of acids and alkalis once more with the mixing of alka seltzer with various liquids such as lemon juice and vinegar in form of film canister rockets. We took these rockets outside to see if the alka seltzer exploded and launched the canister into the air, and indeed they did, with much style!
