Lent Class 3

Week 1  – Faith

‘Choose something to give up or choose something to do that will make a difference to other people’

To start of our Five week Lent challenge, we looked at what Lent is all about during collective worship. In class, we had a further discussion about Lent. For this we starting by reading the bible quote Luke 9:23. The quote tells Christians that they must give up their own way and follow Jesus. Children discussed what this meant and linked it to the story of Lent. We talked about what we would like to give up for Lent.

A child said, “We give up something and we try to do something nice.” Another commented, “We give something up for 40 days and 40 nights because Jesus went without when he was in the desert.”

Week 2 – Wisdom

‘Choose to pay for those in our community each day’

For week two of our Lent challenge, we prayed for those who have less than us all over the world. We took the time to reflect on our relationship with God and with other people. We discussed with our friends and shared with the class the different things we might have done for someone less fortunate or poorly, we may have give them a hug, made them feel welcome and part of a group, looked after them or read them a story when they have been upset. We used our knowledge of wisdom and that we should make wise decisions in our lives.

A child said, “I like to look after my friends so they know they are loved.” Another commented, “I’m nice to my sister when she is upset.”

Week 3 – Hope

‘Write a kind message for someone to give them hope and encouragement’

This weeks challenge was ‘hope’. We started by reading the bible verse, Roman 15:13 that explains if Christians trust him they will be filled with hope and joy. We discussed what we hoped for in the future, and the hopes for the world. Our task was to write a kind message for someone to give them hope and encouragement. Some of us decided to write messages to others in our class but others wrote messages to children in younger and older year groups.

A child said, “I liked getting a message it made me feel good.” Another commented, “It was good giving a message to someone.”
