Class 2 really enjoyed taking part in the endangered animals’ day that Class 3 ran. From the very start of the day we knew it was going to be special, as so many of us came in with our animal themed fancy dress on. We had tigers, crocodiles, polar bears and of course a lot of pandas. We had a celebration assembly in the morning where we found out about the activities that we would be doing throughout the day, and how the money we raised could help save animals.
Throughout the morning we had colouring in and sock decorating activities, all ran by the year 3/4 children who gave out useful advice and explained how the competition was going to be judged. We also went into the hall to see the different things that were on sale to help raise money. There were donuts and sweets on sale, a guess the teddy’s name competition, and a guess the number of sweeties in the jar competition. Even with all these great activities to keep us busy, we found the time to practise and hold the first round for our talent competition. We had some great talent in our class, and it was a really close vote to decide who was going to go through and represent our class in front of the whole school.
After lunch, we finished off our drawings for the competition and then went outside to have a nature walk around the school grounds. We each got an ice lolly, which was great for cooling us down in the hot sun, and then we set to work finding and collecting micro-litter. Micro-litter is the really small pieces of litter that people often forget about, but that can hurt small animals such as hedgehogs when they try to eat it. Even though the micro-litter was small, we managed to find enough to fill a whole bin-liner! This helped to protect the animals in our local habitat, and we could really recognise the role we have in protecting our local environment.
Our day finished with the talent show, where children from each class got up and showed off their skills. Our representatives did really well and we saw some great variety in the different types of acts from around the school; we had everything from singers and dancers to a stand-up comedian! We all loved the activities ran by class 3, and we were happy that everything we did helped to protect endangered animals.
