Week 1
Today we learnt about the meaning of Lent.
First we discussed Shrove Tuesday and what that day meant to us, one child said “We eat lots of pancakes.” We learnt that this was a day that Christians used up all their foods in order to begin a fast for the 40 days of Lent.
Next, we heard how Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights in the desert and how it is important to Christians to do something good for 40 days. We discussed all the things that we might do to give back to others in the next 40 days. There was lots of discussion, one child said, “I think we could give things to people that don’t have anything.” Another agreed saying, “we could bring in our old toys for others.” Some children said, “I think we could be kinder to each other and play with our friends.” We thought carefully about our promises and wrote them on a promise card.
Finally, we made and tasted pancakes of our own so that we could have a fresh start and complete our lent challenges.
Week 4
Today we completed our Lent challenge. We spoke about the community around us, our school! We had lots of discussion about how we could show love to our community.
We talked about keeping our school clean and tidy by picking up rubbish inside and outside. We discussed being kind to each other and sharing our toys.
Then, we decided to complete some of these kind acts in our community. We went on a litter pick outside and cleared the rubbish from the yard. When we were playing we thought about being kind and even shared our toys.
We really loved helping out in the community and want to continue our kind acts.
A child suggested, “We could clean up outside.” Another said, “We might be kind.”
